“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him” (Colossians 3:17).
There are times when we feel like the only thing we want to do is “what we want to do” and sometimes what we want is not what God wants us to do. How do we determine when it’s us or Him? We ask ourselves–would God be pleased?
If we can determine that God would indeed be pleased then we can do “it” whatever it is, in the name of The Lord and be assured of its success! Maybe, just maybe, when we do not succeed at doing something it is because we were doing what we wanted to do and did not consider what God might us to do. If we don’t make that consideration chances are–we’re not doing it in His name.
When we gamble in attempt to gain, financially, are we doing it in the name of the Lord?
When we conduct business without integrity, are we doing it in the name of the Lord?
When we constantly find fault with everyone around us instead of praying for them, are we doing it in the name of the Lord?
When parents abuse children, are they doing it in the name of the Lord?
When we neglect the gifts that God has given us to promote the Gospel, are we doing it in the name of the Lord?
When politicians proceed with their own agenda instead of their constituents, are they doing it in the name of the Lord?
If we truly want peace in the land, we need to practice peace and pray for no confusion and do all in the name of the Lord–to see God’s handiwork in everything we do.
Let’s clean up our acts–in obedience to God’s Word, not in rebellion–and do it all in the name of the Lord!
