2020 Pandemic

Other than thinking that 2020 was going to be the year we “fired trump,” I would not have guessed, had no inkling, 2020 would turn out the way it did. I knew a Corona Virus had hit China hard, but never thought we would see the devastating results we have seen in America and all due to the incompetence and narcissism of Donald Trump (yes, at last, I capitalize his name).

From January to March—we coasted—not recognizing the rollercoaster ride we were about to take and all the while, going about our “normal routines.” Now, we wonder if in fact, there was anything normal about those early months—especially now that we know trump knew in December what China was facing—well, actually what the world was facing, but he downplayed at the beginning and is now—at the end of 2020—still not dealing with the reality of this deadly virus as we can see in the 333 thousand deaths of Americans, with many more expected, by the time we reach the end of the year.

Our lives have changed forever.  What we thought was normal, is now a thing of the past. We are living in a new normal and no one can adequately predict how long the new normal will last which includes masking up—especially in close quarters with others. What we already know is that some will rebel and cost others their lives simply because they do not care about other people—though they will never admit it. That is the bottom line. Wearing a mask for them—infringes upon their freedom. They do not want to look like “sheep.” They do not want to maintain social distancing or follow any of the other guidelines determined by the experts—and of course—none of the rebellious are actually experts at anything other than complaining about “their rights,” while totally ignoring the rights of others, those of us who want to live a long life, totally unencumbered by the effects of COVID-19 or any of the mutated variants, now coming to light.

Many of us, while at home awaiting orders to resume our lives outside of our homes, took up baking. We baked and baked and baked and then we gained weight. Some of which, we have yet to shed because getting outside with mask-deniers is simply not worth the risk. So, we find other things to do—that are, unfortunately, not related to exercising. We watched more television, both news and movies. The news depressed us, so we retreated to heartwarming movies that gave us a bit of a reprieve from the devastating news of death totals across the country. We learned the art of video conferencing, thanks in no small part to Zoom, Google Classroom and Facebook Video Chats. Other companies have come aboard with the video capacity for those of us who are not corporate elites, but the retired and otherwise, working poor who can now communicate with family and friends without jeopardizing our health. Amazingly, churchgoers (not necessarily Christians) discovered they could actually worship God at home or enjoy church services via a video platform on their phone or laptop or tablet. How about that? God is everywhere! Of course, there is always a downside to just about everything, church leaders missed their offerings and so they filed lawsuits against wise government leaders who restricted the attendance of churches in person. We can see where their priorities lie—in the offering plate—not in the safety of their congregants.

We have seen throughout the four years of the current administration more blatant expressions of overt racism and bigotry than this country has seen in a long time. So much so that we have given the white women who make false claims against black people a name—Karen. The white males who are haters are more likely to kill a black person than to just call the police filing false claims, and then the black males, mostly, end up dead, for no apparent reason other than being black. We have seen protests arising from the disproportionate incidents of black deaths and we have also seen the total ignorance and lack of understanding of white people who simply choose to ignore the obvious. They have ranted against Black Lives Matter because they simply do not understand that the movement is not about ignoring the lives of others but highlighting the loss of black lives—specifically those killed by police officers or other angry white men. What we have seen in this country is the totality of ignorance abounding in people who refuse to research, using credible sources, and instead, choose to regurgitate the hatred and discompassionate rantings of idiots—including the orange menace. Though there have been some, as usual, who dared to stand up against the hatred and bigotry risking repudiation from members of their own families and certainly political parties and communities, the hatred abounds and swarms over communities of color with reverse racism, felt across the land. Too many people, so-called leaders in the black community, are engaging in efforts to vilify all white people, while promoting the antics of black people that are questionable, if not downright illegal.

We have watched while small businesses went under, not only because of the pandemic, but because rich lawmakers helped themselves to billions of dollars intended to help the small business owners. Families have suffered due to lost jobs and lost loved ones. The economy has certainly suffered, but it could have been saved sooner if those who have been and are still rebellious had just complied with the guidelines provided by the experts.

No doubt about it, this past year has been a rollercoaster ride for most of us and the end of the ride, is not yet known, even with the production of vaccines or getting vaccinated. All we can do to ameliorate the incoming year, is to remember this past year is to commit ourselves to doing better in caring about all. Mask-Up America, for as long as needed, without complaining or putting yourself or others at risk.

Strength To Endure!

Strength To Endure!

It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights.  He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You make your saving help my shield, and your right hand sustains me; your help has made me great. You provide a broad path for my feet, so that my ankles do not give way.  I pursued my enemies and overtook them; I did not turn back till they were destroyed. I crushed them so that they could not rise; they fell beneath my feet. You armed me with strength for battle; you humbled my adversaries before me. You made my enemies turn their backs in flight, and I destroyed my foes. They cried for help, but there was no one to save them— to the LORD, but he did not answer. I beat them as fine as windblown dust; I trampled them like mud in the streets. You have delivered me from the attacks of the people; you have made me the head of nations. People I did not know now serve me, foreigners cower before me; as soon as they hear of me, they obey me. They all lose heart; they come trembling from their strongholds. The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior! Psalm 18:32-46 NIV

Though the days seem long and wearisome, and the nights a never-ending gloom of sadness and nightmares, though the idiocy never seems to find itself an end, though those in positions of authority continually abdicate their responsibilities, though it seems like nothing will ever change for the better, we yet have hope and our hope is in God–who strengthens us, not in a person who does not know God.

The leadership in this country–in the executive branch and the legislative branch have severely and negatively impacted the lives of all who live in America. The office of the presidency has forever been marred by the vile and despicable behavior of the one who currently resides in the Oval Office. The legislative branch has become a laughingstock because they lack a spine and will to do what’s right for all Americans. They are bogged down with stupidity, greed and corruption. They are blind to the needs of those who elected them in their pursuit for greatness and grappling to control. Both in the House and Senate, the leadership is more concerned with obtaining a political win for the orange maggot than in legislating to meet the needs of their constituents. On a daily basis, we see the inevitable decay and downfall of a nation, once revered, now the butt of jokes on a global level.

For those of us who are watching, intently, every move, every nuanced communication via social media platforms, and mainstream media–we see and we know that our only hope is in the One who created all things and without Him, nothing was ever created. Though it would appear that the horror many are facing on a daily basis will never end, it will. Though it would appear that no one cares about those in crisis, there are. Though it appears that Russian meddling will continue to infiltrate and negatively influence our election results, they won’t–unless we let them.

We have the strength to endure the onslaught of madness and corruption when we seek God for all we need and for wisdom from on high. If we start paying attention–to the details and facts–not the false propaganda, we will prevail, and rise to the occasion stronger than ever to fight back–against the tyranny that is attempting to overtake our democratic republic. We must arm ourselves with factual information in order to make wise decisions. We must refute the liars and promoters of false propaganda when they raise their ugly heads. We must call a lie a lie and a liar, a liar. We must stop sugar-coating and soft peddling truth when hard, unadulterated truth is needed for the survival of our nation. Above all, we must be willing to see truth and acknowledge when we’re wrong and adjust our thinking so we won’t fall for the lies promoted by those who wish to desecrate our nation.

Love trumps hate any day of the week–and for centuries to come. We give up our freedoms to choose our paths when we allow authoritarians to persuade us we need to be controlled and manipulated. It is hatred that drives manipulation and love that encourages freedom of thought and choices. We cannot allow ourselves to be deceived by the enemy who roams the country, pretending to be Christian, when they are actually soldiers of Satan and we know because of the lies they tell.

We no longer have time to sit idly by and watch the destruction of a nation. We must rise up with truth and love guiding our every step, as we battle the enemy that promotes lies and spread hatred. If we are who we say we are, we will not promote hatred of any person regardless of their ethnicity, gender, or faith. We will lift up all with love and compassion, meeting the needs wherever we can so all will know–we’re never alone and that God is our strength.

2018 midterm election is coming up soon and if we really want to see our country headed in the right direction, we must elect lawmakers who will legislate for the benefit of their constituents, not their egos or bank accounts. When the House is righted, then we can concentrate on electing a president in 2020, who will govern for all Americans, not just some. We need a compassionate, empathic, wise leader governing from the Oval Office and though there are many choices, there is one who knows the challenges and struggles of the Everyday American.

Who’s Really Free?

Who’s Really Free?

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all.Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law. You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. Galatians 5:1-6 NIV

The debate about whether to stand, kneel or sit during the a presentation of the National Anthem has become a contentious discussion. Now, it would seem that everyone wants to chime in and have an opinion and most seem to think their opinion is the only one that counts. Before anyone’s opinion can be counted, everyone must understand what the debate represents. Kneeling during the anthem is a protest against the injustice suffered by those in the Black community because of police brutality–unarmed Black males being killed.

Now, whether people understand the angst felt in the Black community or not really is not debatable.  Unless a person is Black, they would not understand why some of us feel so strongly about the deaths of young Black males. To fully understand, one must understand the discrimination we’ve suffered for a very long time. And just to make sure, the message is understood, I encourage everyone to review the history of Black people in this country.

We were imported as slaves, treated like animals or worse, denied the rights provided every human being, babies taken from mothers, families separated, lynched, burned, wrongfully jailed and executed without recourse through any judicial system because the laws were against us, not for us. It was not until 1968 that most of us had the right to vote because we didn’t count. Most people don’t realize the electoral college was established for those who owned slaves–so they wouldn’t have an advantage over those who didn’t. (14th Amendment, Section 2) Slaves were set free in 1863, but were still treated like third-class citizens or worse. We had been denied the right to pursue an education, kept of out certain careers and even though many Black men fought in wars “for this country” they were still denied the same rights as others.

There is a stanza of the anthem–written as a poem in 1814–that most are not aware of and it embellishes slavery rather than denounces it and hence–the kneeling during the anthem–is about systemic racism; not about patriotism!

Oh, say! can you see by the dawn’s early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming;
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there:
Oh, say! does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In fully glory reflected now shines in the stream:
‘Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh, long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps’ pollution!
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Oh, thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav’n-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust”:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

When we understand that this country has diminished the rights of Black people and still does not respect us as human beings, we protest and with a peaceful protest where no one is harmed or violated–there should be no dissension or debate about the right to do so.

When trump disrespected Black football players by calling them SOBs, he demonstrated his racism and all who applauded him and encouraged his racist rhetoric demonstrated where they stood. Systemic racism is still a problem in this country and there is no denying it. The fact that over 70% of all football players in the NFL are Black speaks volumes and the fact that the biggest fans are white also speaks volumes–we are still seen as being nothing more than “entertainers” for those with “white privilege.”

I’m taking a stand against those who claim the football players are arrogant, spoiled brats and should be “grateful” for the opportunity to become rich. Do those who make these statements say the same thing about “White Players” or is it just a condemnation of the Black players? Every Black and White football earned the right to play by their relentless pursuit of excellence in playing the game. They were not given spots on a team, they earned them.

For decades–probably to the chagrin of many people who said, “Black people were inferior to White people–we have proven time and time again, we are not an inferior race of people, but those who are fearful and bigoted have not stopped thinking they are the superior race. Well, I have news for all–there is only one race of people–the human race and none superior to another, but if people want to deal with facts and not fiction, they only have to understand where man originated–on the continent of Africa–and if there was a superior race–it would be the African race–where life began.

If we ever get to a place in society where we can see people and not color, we’ll all be better off. We can live in peace and spend our time–collectively trying to find cures for cancer and other debilitating diseases, establishing lifestyles that will preserve the planet for the benefit of all, and keeping the human race–alive, prosperous and vital for the next millennium.

The truth of the matter is–until we are all willing to discuss–rationally–the social injustices that exist with the systemic racism–nothing will ever change. We must come together and understand “the reasons” for the divide and then pursue unity as a whole–for all Americans.

Raising The Standards

We Can’t Stop Now!

We Can’t Stop Now!

My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses for the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer. You are the most excellent of men and your lips have been anointed with grace, since God has blessed you forever. Gird your sword on your side, you mighty one; clothe yourself in splendor and majesty. In your majesty ride forth victoriously in the cause of truth, humility, and justice; let your right hand achieve awesome deeds. Let your sharp arrows pierce the hearts of the king’s enemies; let the nations fall beneath your feet. Your throne, O God, will last forever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy. All your robes are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia; from palaces adorned with ivory the music of the strings makes you glad. Daughters of kings are among our honored women; at your right hand is the royal bride in gold of Ophir. Listen daughter, and pay careful attention: Forget your people and your father’s house, Let the king be enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your lord. The city of Tyre will come with a gift, people of wealth will seek your favor. Psalm 45: 1-12 NIV

If we concentrate on what is ahead of us and not linger too long about what’s behind us, we will see the great things God has for us. We are not defeated, even if we are moving slowly towards our goal. Sometimes, it takes careful, deliberate movement–cautiously proceeding to avoid the snares and pitfalls the enemy has laid out before us.

If we do things in a hurry, and inadvertently fall into a pit–who will be there to pull us out? If we become snared in the very thing we’re fighting–who will disentangle the truth from the false?

Though the road to success may be distant and arduous, don’t give up! Remember Rome wasn’t built in a day, and this fight–is worth the effort because our victory will change the way we do things forever–shoring up democracy for generations to come instead of allowing one family–to destroy it and us.

Remember the Alamo! An entire cultured was threatened with extinction but they survived.

Remember the Nazis! A horrific regime that was determined to destroy an entire nation of people because of their beliefs and though many died, many others survived.

Remember all of the things that seemed impossible and know that with God, nothing is impossible for us to accomplish. With Him going before us, nothing and no one can stop us from making sure truth is revealed and fascism in this country, stopped in its tracks.

There are more us than there are of them–remember only 62M + people voted for the GOP travesty we are now experiencing. Our role now is to convince the other 261M to get out and vote and to vote blue! We must convince all Americans to put country before party! Though some may mock our efforts now–they will applaud them when they understand truth and why we continued the fight.

No matter how hard we’ve worked or how dismal the prospects may seem, we can’t give up now! We must continue with all the fervor we can muster, determined to stand firm, and even though we may have a step back for a moment to regroup and refresh, we shall never give up! We can’t stop now! Victory is on the horizon and we are closer than we were in December–so keep up the fight and see the reward of our efforts.

Every day is a new day for us to renew our determination to keep America functioning as a democracy should where all have a right to speak their thoughts aloud and all have a right to have a say in our government and who should govern us, without interference from a foreign adversary or the promotion of false propaganda. We cannot allow anyone to take that from us. Democracy is the foundation of this Republic and will not stop fighting for its existence!

Power of Truth!

Power of Truth!

The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him.” Even as he spoke, many believed in him. To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:29-32 NIV

When we have done all we can do–the only thing is to depend on God and the power of Holy Spirit giving courage and boldness to all who speak truth.

For today, with the testimony of those who know truth–when truth is spoken and received–it has the power to destroy the lies and plots of the enemy and set us all free from the debacle that resides in the White House.

On the road to freedom–truth will be the foundation on which we rebuild trust and respect in the world.

Rising Stench!

Rising Stench!

See now, the Lord, the LORD Almighty, is about to take from Jerusalem and Judah both supply and support: all supplies of food and all supplies of water, the hero and the warrior, the judge and the prophet, the diviner and the elder, the captain of fifty and the man of rank, the counselor, skilled craftsman and clever enchanter.“I will make mere youths their officials; children will rule over them.” People will oppress each other— man against man, neighbor against neighbor. The young will rise up against the old, the nobody against the honored. A man will seize one of his brothers in his father’s house, and say, “You have a cloak, you be our leader; take charge of this heap of ruins!” But in that day he will cry out, “I have no remedy. I have no food or clothing in my house; do not make me the leader of the people.”Jerusalem staggers, Judah is falling; their words and deeds are against the LORD, defying his glorious presence. The look on their faces testifies against them; they parade their sin like Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to them! They have brought disaster upon themselves. Tell the righteous it will be well with them, for they will enjoy the fruit of their deeds. Woe to the wicked! Disaster is upon them! They will be paid back for what their hands have done.Youths oppress my people, women rule over them. My people, your guides lead you astray; they turn you from the path. The LORD takes his place in court; he rises to judge the people. The LORD enters into judgment against the elders and leaders of his people: “It is you who have ruined my vineyard; the plunder from the poor is in your houses. What do you mean by crushing my people and grinding the faces of the poor?” declares the Lord, the LORD Almighty. The LORD says, “The women of Zion are haughty, walking along with outstretched necks, flirting with their eyes, strutting along with swaying hips, with ornaments jingling on their ankles. Therefore the Lord will bring sores on the heads of the women of Zion; the LORD will make their scalps bald.” In that day the Lord will snatch away their finery: the bangles and headbands and crescent necklaces, the earrings and bracelets and veils, the headdresses and anklets and sashes, the perfume bottles and charms, the signet rings and nose rings, the fine robes and the capes and cloaks, the purses and mirrors, and the linen garments and tiaras and shawls. Instead of fragrance there will be a stench; instead of a sash, a rope; instead of well-dressed hair, baldness; instead of fine clothing, sackcloth; instead of beauty, branding.Your men will fall by the sword, your warriors in battle. The gates of Zion will lament and mourn; destitute, she will sit on the ground. Isaiah 3 NIV

Do we get it yet?

God is not pleased with what He sees,

Soon, the world will be brought to its knees,

With the poor abandoned and without hope,

Because the ill-informed, and ignorant did vote,

For the clown who claimed business acumen,

And proudly boasted of his deeds of sin.

Those who led the charge of change with lies,

Have let all know–darkness in their heart resides,

And reigns–saving money but resulting in early deaths,

Of those uninsured, covered indeed with casket wreaths.

A little literary license with words this morning to make the point–God is not dead, nor is He blind or deaf, nor is He indifferent to the plight of the poor or the deeds of the wicked. He will take care of the righteous though they be few, in Him on a daily basis our hearts can renew our hope in Him and Him alone, since lawmakers have made their positions known and unless we are part of the 1%–who don’t have to worry about rent– they could care less about us.

The stench from the ugliness and smokescreens in Washington have not reached the height or depth–with fuel constantly being added to the smoldering tinderbox that is bound to implode or explode with all the new revelations coming forth.

Get out the gas mask, the shovel and hip boots because it’s about get deep and the stench, could kill–clogging respiration, digestion, circulation, as the desperation becomes apparent and finally–truth emerges.

Just a little while longer and we’ll all be free to see the death hold of lies, Russian connections and ties and false propaganda cease with complete purging of the White House and Capitol Hill.

Hallelujah! Soon and very soon, we will be free from the wickedness that rules in the guise of  being Christian leadership.

Deranged Leadership!

Deranged Leadership!

A prophecy against Babylon that Isaiah son of Amoz saw: Raise a banner on a bare hilltop, shout to them; beckon to them to enter the gates of the nobles.  I have commanded those I prepared for battle; I have summoned my warriors to carry out my wrath— those who rejoice in my triumph. Listen, a noise on the mountains, like that of a great multitude! Listen, an uproar among the kingdoms, like nations massing together! The LORD Almighty is mustering an army for war. They come from faraway lands, from the ends of the heavens— the LORD and the weapons of his wrath— to destroy the whole country. Wail, for the day of the LORD is near; it will come like destruction from the Almighty. Because of this, all hands will go limp, every heart will melt with fear. Terror will seize them, pain and anguish will grip them; they will writhe like a woman in labor. They will look aghast at each other, their faces aflame. See, the day of the LORD is coming —a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger— to make the land desolate and destroy the sinners within it. The stars of heaven and their constellations will not show their light. The rising sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light. I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless. I will make people scarcer than pure gold, more rare than the gold of Ophir. Therefore I will make the heavens tremble; and the earth will shake from its place at the wrath of the LORD Almighty, in the day of his burning anger. Like a hunted gazelle, like sheep without a shepherd, they will all return to their own people, they will flee to their native land. Whoever is captured will be thrust through; all who are caught will fall by the sword. Their infants will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be looted and their wives violated. See, I will stir up against them the Medes, who do not care for silver and have no delight in gold. Their bows will strike down the young men; they will have no mercy on infants, nor will they look with compassion on children. Babylon, the jewel of kingdoms, the pride and glory of the Babylonians, will be overthrown by God like Sodom and Gomorrah. She will never be inhabited or lived in through all generations; there no nomads will pitch their tents, there no shepherds will rest their flocks. Isaiah 13:1-20 NIV (Read all)

Babylon has taken up residence in the White House in the United States of America–once known as “the land of the brave and the free.”

When the citizens of a nation are “barred” from speaking truth, to appease a tyrant, there is no freedom of speech. 45 has violated the constitution on so many levels that I’ve lost count, but I am thankful for those who have the expertise and the means to express the abuse of power we have seen. If not checked by the legislative branch of government or the judicial branch, there will be a greater civil insurrection within our borders. The uprising will be be more massive and probably more intensive than the revolt against the British by the colonists and the civil war.

We see the blueprint being laid out before us and we know from a study of history that whenever a deranged leader is allowed to have power and abuses the position–chaos ensues and people rebel. Most of us have read history books–unlike 45 who is only interested in books with his picture on the front as evidenced by reports of books being removed from federal agencies and replaced with those who “praise him.”

What most people don’t realize is that in less than ten days, the ship in the middle of the sea is taking on water and no one seems to have the presence of mind to start the process that would keep the ship afloat in the middle of the storm. There is only one predictable outcome when the leadership refuses to believe–water is rising and the ship is sinking. There are no lifeboats on board and everyone on the ship will sink unless someone with courage and integrity finally takes control of the situation and starts a chain-bailout–of the water determined to sink the ship.

On the surface, it would appear that lawmakers have been deluded and blinded by the “lightning speed” at which executive orders are being signed, but reality–not alterative facts–will soon shake them out of their reverie when Americans exercise their right to hold elected representatives accountable for their lack of action.

Our constitution does begin with, “We the people,” not “We the elected ones” and the people–not only the 261 million who did not vote for 45, but all those who are now awake at last and regret voting for him–will arise and do whatever is necessary, by any means necessary to get our country back on the right track.

The God I serve–the Creator of all that was ever creator–is not a God of hate, but of love and we who know Him, know that love will always triumph over hate. And now, I trust only in Him, not those who say they know Him and yet demonstrate hate of others simply because they are different. We are told in God’s Word to hate “sin” not people. As long as God gives me sight to see–both naturally and spiritually–and finger joints that work, I will speak out against fascism, imperialism and other type of authoritarian government that defeats the purpose of democratic process.

Greater is He who lives in me

Than he who is in the world.

Can We Talk, Again?

Can We Talk, Again?

“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive. No one should seek their own good, but the good of others.  Eat anything sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience, for, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” I am referring to the other person’s conscience, not yours. For why is my freedom being judged by another’s conscience? I Corinthians 10:223-26, 29 NIV

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17 NIV

A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold. Proverbs 22:1 NIV

I have been paying attention to probably far too many news items and commentaries, but what I’ve seen grieves my spirit. For in this country, we are supposed to have certain guaranteed rights, and as long as we don’t infringe upon the rights of others–those rights should be respected, not vilified.

We have freedom of speech–but that doesn’t mean we should have a foul mouth and express hateful rhetoric towards others or about others. So, when the QB of the San Francisco 49ers decides that he doesn’t want to stand while the National Anthem is playing, that is his right and since he is not infringing upon the rights of others–none of the rest of us should anything to say. Why is it that there are those who think they have a right to impose their consciences upon others in judging what we do?

Speaking of which–the imposition placed upon Black Americans–and how we’re labeled has become a topic of conflict. On more than one occasion and in more than one venue, I have seen people complain about the use of a hyphen in the African-American identity. One person went so far as to say, the use of the hyphen is the cause of all the racism in this country. I beg to differ with them. No hyphen was used when we were classified: slave, or colored or even the hated “nigger” or a number of other hateful terms, when referencing who we were. Racism has its roots in the hatred of people of color and the fact that White people have long held beliefs they are superior to any other race of people. We see that in the treatment of Natives of the Land, and with all other minorities–and other immigrants who came to this country. While there are many people of color who have a preference to what they are called or how they are identified, I simply choose to be a Black American until “we are all considered Americans.”

What is astounding to me is that while people are clamoring about other people coming into this country to “take jobs,” not many are saying anything about those who came into this country and “took land” from those who were already living here. Who were those who came here–European immigrants–the colonists–who established themselves as the only right-living group of people and called those who were already here–savages–because they did not do things they way they did them.

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

The inscription on Lady Liberty–our gift from France–across the Atlantic from which many came was a recognition that many would come and we should welcome them, not debase them. And the only group of people that have been denied this liberty expressed are those who were “forcefully brought to this land” without having a choice in the matter.

And with all of the hateful rhetoric being stoked right now–by those who proclaim to be Christians, where exactly is the “spirit of The Lord” dwelling? Certainly not in the hearts of all those who hate and promote hatred. Not in the hearts of those who manufacture lies to make themselves look better. Not in the hearts of those who manipulate others into buying into their lies. Not in the hearts of those who crave attention and will do anything to get it.

How do we know? For where the Spirit of The Lord dwells–there is liberty and love–no hatred. Whatever abides in our heart will come forth like a mighty rushing river and pour into our immediacy and people will see and hear what is hidden in our heart–whether it is the Love of God or evil.

If we never learn to live God’s Word the way He intended us to live–loving all unconditionally, we don’t deserve to be called Christians. In fact, if we are not living The Word, we make a mockery out of being Christians because we are not following Christ when we choose to impose our consciences, our way of doing things upon others–negating their right to do things their own way. This is the “religious way of doing things” and Jesus called out the Pharisees for doing this.

I believe it’s reckoning time. We need to look at ourselves in the mirror and ask God to show us who we really are, accept it and be willing to allow Him to change us–being who He wants us to be, not what we have constructed ourselves to be with all of our built-in hate and animosity.

Until we get to this one point–there is only one race of people–the human race and like I said to someone yesterday who claimed the use of a hyphen is keeping us separated, it is not. “Until America accepts Black Americans as Americans, we will be always be a separate class of people. It is not the Black American who is creating a racial divide, but the White race who lives out their superiority complex and treats us as second class citizens.

My commentary today is not an indictment against all White people or all Black people or any other group of people, but it is a warning about where our country is headed if we don’t realize what we’re doing to one another. As a nation, we cannot afford to be divided in our purposes and intent for all Americans to be treated with equality. And if we exist as a divided nation rather than a nation unified with common goals, we will be captured by the evil that exist–inside and outside–our borders.

History has a way of repeating itself–especially if we refuse to learn from it. I suggest we all review the history of the land, recognize the wrongs committed and determine not to repeat them–again, and again, and again.

We don’t need a nation of people who are religious; we need a nation of people who are in relationship with God, living His Word,  and following His lead in all things.

Where Our Allegiance Lies…

Where Our Allegiance Lies…

For the king of Babylon will stop at the fork in the road, at the junction of the two roads, to seek an omen: He will cast lots with arrows, he will consult his idols, he will examine the liver. Into his right hand will come the lot for Jerusalem, where he is to set up battering rams, to give the command to slaughter, to sound the battle cry, to set battering rams against the gates, to build a ramp and to erect siege works. It will seem like a false omen to those who have sworn allegiance to him, but he will remind them of their guilt and take them captive. Ezekiel 21:21-23 NIV

When our allegiance is criticized by those who have not lived our experiences, it warrants a deeper discussion and understanding of the values held and the need for those values to be respected, regardless.

Children are taught to “pledge allegiance to the flag” when they are young–at least that was true in yester-years. Now, I’m not sure what they’re taught considering the fact that there are movements determined to teach children in kindergarten about homosexuality, bisexuality, transgenderism and only God knows what else–and school districts are allowing this rather than acknowledging a parent’s right to teach their children about any type of sexual behavior. So much time is spent teaching children things that have nothing to do with academics that it’s no wonder our children have difficulty focusing and passing standardized tests–unless the answers have something to do with sexuality.

So, if no one is teaching the children about what allegiance means–as it pertains to the American flag–why would anyone be upset about the “physical position” one takes when facing the flag? Stand or sit–what is the big deal? In the case of the football player, Colin Kaepernick and his “sitting” protest–why is it a “terrible thing?” He is not the first to adhere to the “standards” set by others in acknowledging the flag when the national anthem is presented and he won’t be the last. In America–the flag is supposed to represent the fact that we have rights and choices and none should be objectified when exercising those rights–especially since there was no desecration or mockery involved.

What I see–is people so blinded to their ideals of American political partisanship, that those complaining have forgotten about “what freedom means” for all. If students cannot be compelled to recite the pledge nor punished for not doing so–why are we vilifying an adult–is it because he is a black male professional athlete? Or is it that the last part of that pledge does not include him with regard to “freedom and justice for ALL?”

“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

Liberty–synonymous for freedom sees to evade people of color–from times past to the present. Whenever there is supposed to be freedom–it gets ignored and criticized unless one happens to be a funny-faced man with money who has trampled on others with his freedom to speak racist remarks and yet–he is promoted and touted as a “great man” by his subservient supporters. This is not to say he hasn’t been called on the carpet for the foolishness that keeps falling from his lips, but since it does keep falling–he should have been “sat down” some time ago and banished from the public view.

And before anyone criticizes what was just said, think about what the funny-faced man said about Kaepernick–“go find another country” as if someone made him king. He hasn’t even been elected and thinks he has a right to stick his nose in places it doesn’t belong–or rather tweeting about things that don’t concern him, but making it about him and politics. What a waste! Telling someone to “go find another country” proves the point about him being racist.

If one person’s freedom is not recognized then none of us have freedom or we shouldn’t especially when some use their “freedom of expression” to belittle and humiliate others. Either we’re all free or the “allegiance pledged” means nothing for anyone. We cannot have it both ways.

If our true allegiance was to Jesus Christ–none of what is happening would be happening, but most of those who claim devotion to Jesus–lie every day with their actions and loose lips. When our allegiance lies with the ability of a mere mortal to do more than God, we get what we deserve–and then we become captives of the Babylonians (those who never worshiped our God)!

On The Journey–SHIN!

Princes persecute me without a cause,
But my heart stands in awe of Your word.

I rejoice at Your word
As one who finds great treasure.

I hate and abhor lying,
But I love Your law.

Seven times a day I praise You,
Because of Your righteous judgments.

Great peace have those who love Your law,
And nothing causes them to stumble.

LORD, I hope for Your salvation,
And I do Your commandments.

My soul keeps Your testimonies,
And I love them exceedingly.

I keep Your precepts and Your testimonies,
For all my ways are before You. Psalm 119:161-168 NKJV

The 21st letter and stanza–acknowledgement, praise and hope in the midst of any trial.

How many times has someone who has authority over us–attempted to misuse their authority and persecute us, simply because we would not conform to doing things their way-in opposition to God’s Word? We were not the first to experience this ploy to get us to be deceitful and dishonest and we won’t be the last.

Whenever anyone expects us to lie or cheat in order to keep a job or to stay in their favor, we should have the same attitude the writer has. We should abhor lying and deceitfulness with a passion and openly denounce it.

Are we in awe of God’s Word enough to keep it–no matter what others do? The more I study and seek God for understanding, the more I realize just how much His Word is so much better than the dictates of man.

In God’s Word–there is Life and Liberty–freedom to live according to God’s Word, knowing we are pleasing God, whether others find fault with us or not.

In God’s Word–there is Justice and Mercy. God’s Word is just–not fair–for His righteousness is just and there is nothing in it we can debate–that will change His intent for our lives. This is why we are constantly reminded in His Word that the wicked shall have their judgment for all the world to see and we are regarded–His righteousness, for we have none of our own.

In God’s Word–there is Love and Grace–God is love and therefore everything He has done, is doing and will do is based upon His love for us. If we follow His commands–to love Him and one another–the world will be filled to overflowing with Love and we shall peace upon the land because of His favor shown towards us.

In God’s Word–there is Peace–His peace that surpasses all understanding. And because we belong to Him, we too can enjoy blessed peace in the midst of chaos and confusion when we live according to His Word.

In God’s Word–there is Light–that overcomes the darkness that hangs as clouds because of the wicked imaginations of those who oppose God. Wherever there is darkness, light dispels it and exposes the deeds of darkness. We cannot hide from God, no matter what we think we can do that He won’t see or know.

In God’s Word–there is healing–for our bodies and for nations under siege–due to differences of opinion and the ravages of war. By His stripes we are healed of illnesses, diseases and with His peace we are healed of frustration and depression over things we cannot control. If those of us who believe Him would simply pray–earnestly–believing He will answer– and repent of our waywardness, He will heal the land.

In God’s Word–there is Truth–for His Word is Truth and His Ways are the true way by which we should live. Whenever God’s Word is not revealed as Truth, peace is disrupted and chaos reigns.

How often we pray to God or communicate with Him on any level is not a matter of prescription or formula, but it should be a way of life for every Believer. I pray throughout the day–thanking God and praising Him for His goodness–and I have no idea how many times I do it; I just do it.

My soul loves Jesus and all my hope is in Him for there is no hope in any other! How about you?
