Obtaining Happiness and Keeping It!

If people are bound with chains and trapped by the cords of affliction, God tells them what they have done and how arrogantly they have transgressed. He opens their ears  to correction and insists they repent from iniquity. If they serve Him obediently, they will end their days in prosperity and their years in happiness. Job 36:8-11 HCSB

People are looking for happiness–in all the wrong places–and when they find what they think is happiness, it is short-lived and leaves them frustrated and oppressed. When most are asked what makes them happy, the first words that come out of their mouths is having money, then love.

If people need money and love to make them happy, we can get a better understanding as to why there are so many miserable people in the world.

Factual understanding: 1% of all Americans hold the wealth of country. These are the big businesses that rake in money hand over fist, pay minimum wages, and often ship manufacturing jobs overseas. This is the Wall Street Gang and in many cases–upon close inspection and looking at their lifestyles–they are not happy because they are obsessed with obtaining more money. They think living lavishly makes them somebody and when in actuality, they are somebody without the frills.

On the other hand–there are many people who have little money, but have learned to be happy with what they have and they are generous to a fault, compassion always reigning in their hearts, and they know how to enjoy the little things in life.

When it comes to love–far too many people have confused lust with love and when feelings wane–and there is no more interest in the person–the lust having been satisfied and now they turn to other people who are looking for lust–not love–and start the cycle all over again.

At the same time, there are people who understand that real love begins with loving self, loving God, receiving His love and loving others. They don’t need someone hanging onto to them to know love, they are loving to all–considering what’s best for all they meet. They know how to nurture relationships, listen to others and genuinely care. True happiness is a mindset that is developed from loving self.

Now, getting back to Job and his situation in life. Although he had lost everything (materially) as well as his children, he never gave up on God--even when his so-called friends and wife encouraged him to do so. His reward for obedience and steadfast faith in God? Restoration of all he had lost and even more. He may have experienced some sad moments as we all do, but he was able to keep moving forward to receive from God.

No matter what happens to us in life, if we are open to correction, repent of anything that harms others or self, and obey God, He will keep His Word and we can end our days with prosperity and live our years (however many we have) being happy.

“Because I’m happy” is a popular refrain in a song, but it also needs to be a deeply-rooted attitude in the hearts of all Believers because we have love and we know that God is always more faithful to us than we might be to Him, so we can count on Him to provide our every need. And when we take the time to please Him, He gives us the desires of our hearts.

Simple Version–I Agree With God!

“Can you solve the mysteries of God? Can you discover everything about the Almighty? Such knowledge is higher than the heavens—and who are you? It is deeper than the underworld—what do you know?” (Job 11:7,8 NLT)

Age-old questions that man is still trying to answer and because there are some things that no one can explain–many have said, “There is no God!”

Why does God allow this happen? Why does God allow that to happen? Why are there starving people in the world? Why are there wars? Why do children suffer? Where was God when all the negative things in the world happened?

Instead of trying to waste brain power and time in explaining the “whys or why nots” of God’s allowance of things, I’ve determined there is one simple answer–I agree with God!

No, I don’t know everything and I’m in good company–neither does anyone else! But this one thing I do know–God knows and the last time I checked, He doesn’t owe anyone an explanation for anything since He created all things–on His own–without consulting us.

What He has done–for our benefit–is to speak to those who were willing to listen and record what He said. Even though some think The Word is a book of fiction, they have yet not been able to deny the authenticity of actual segments of history. For this reason, scientists are always trying to disprove something in the bible only to discover they were wrong and God is right.

Pride truly is a terrible thing when we allow it get in the way of receiving God’s blessings. Only those with so much pride in their own limited knowledge of what they have discovered–will never see what God has truly planned for them. If we stop wasting our time in trying to determine the whys and just accept what He has done and is doing for all those who love Him, our time would be better served in accomplishing all that He wants us to do!

So, I don’t have any more answers about why God does or allows things than anyone else, but I have decided–rather than question Him–I’ll simply agree with Him and enjoy life and His many blessings!

Seeing Joy!

“He shall pray to God, and He will delight in him,  He shall see His face with joy, For He restores to man His righteousness” (Job 33:26 NKJV).

From the oldest book in the bible, we see the testimony of one, who God allowed to be tested. Think about this, God allowed Satan to throw Job in the turbulence of loss–things, children, and almost lost his faith in God by listening to others. And in this verse–a pronouncement is made by Elihu to others about what to do in turbulent times–pray, God will delight him, and man shall see His face with joy!

When we think things are getting too much for us handle; don’t lose sight of those things that God has already done for others; He will do them for us since He is not a respecter of persons. When we pray, with sincerity and not doubt, God delights in us and answers our prayers. Sometimes, the answer is not what we expected, but it is what we need.

Righteousness has been restored to mankind through the blood of Jesus, but not many understand this and think they are righteous of themselves. We have no righteousness for there is none righteous, other than God. But when He takes pleasure in us, He puts us into right standing with Him, restoring broken fellowship with Him and giving us access to boldly come before Him with our prayer petitions.

Don’t get discouraged when life is not always what you want it to be! Get ignited and stirred up enough to seek God and what He wants your life to be. God has a plan for our lives, and when we seek Him, He delights in our faith in Him, responds to our prayers, shows us the life He desires for us and when we are obedient to Him, we receive all we have asked for according to His Word.

Hallelujah! We shall see His face with joy when we behold Him on that great day! I’m looking forward to that great day, with great anticipation of hearing “well done” and seeing the joy in His face because of His delight in me.

Are you looking forward to that day?
