Is It Time, Yet?

“Whatever is has already been, and what will be has been before; and God will call the past to account. I said to myself, God will bring into judgment both the righteous and the wicked, for there will be a time for every activity, a time to judge every deed.” (Ecclesiastes 3:15,17 NIV)

Most Believers who actually study The Word know the beginning of this chapter–a time for everything–and we often quote it in the midst of things we don’t understand, but know that God has a purpose in allowing everything we experience to happen. But when we become familiar with certain passages of scripture, do we keep reading and wondering what was on Solomon’s mind or for that matter, any of the others to whom God spoke?

God–who is without beginning or end–infinite in mercy and grace–who created all things knows that since the beginning of time–people would continue to do what has already been done–for there is truly nothing new–about the character of human beings–that God has not seen. We–who have only been around for a specified amount of time–have been allowed to see some things–some which amaze us and some which appall us, but we see them nonetheless.

We are amazed with the technological advances of men–whose minds have been ignited and imaginations fueled into creation of things not seen before by us, but where were we when God inspired those of ancient times to build irrigation systems and engineer buildings that are yet standing? The same God who inspired the ancients will inspire any and all who are willing to hear Him and for those who have never understood that inspiration–we will continue to be amazed.

We are appalled at the violence and societal decay that leaves such a stench that many of us can hardly breathe without inhaling the malodorous aura of a civilization rotting from the core of its being. This is nothing new! Civilizations have time after time–created havoc with God’s plan and He allowed it so they would see the devastation they wreaked upon themselves. We have but to look at history–and how men who seek power over others because of greed–always decimate the masses and themselves in their folly.

Many people were (and still are) up-in-arms about the decision of the Supreme Court Justices who apparently have no understanding of history repeating itself and certainly do not demonstrate having a relationship with God. None of what we experience is new to God–He’s seen it all before and in His timing–He has dealt with all of it. Most of those who choose to live in opposition to God’s Word do not like the reference to Sodom and Gomorrah, but the truth of the matter is–they were not the only cities destroyed because of sexual sin, or any other sins and neither will they be–the only cities/regions destroyed because of sin.

When we choose to sin and then blatantly flaunt sin–we set ourselves up for judgment here on earth--and then comes the determination of our eternity–at the throne of God. At any given time–we will see the consequences of our actions–before Jesus returns. And if we see with spiritual insight as He reveals it to us–we see it now.

So, in His timing–the world–people from all walks of life, who operate in various roles and practice numerous religions–all will see God’s wrath poured upon the earth and some–as in times past–will remain to share the experience with others for not all will perish–God must have a witness until it is time for His return to exact the final judgment upon the righteous and sinner alike. The question we must ask ourselves–is it time, yet?

Before Our Very Eyes!

At that time I will gather you; at that time I will bring you home. I will give you honor and praise among all the peoples of the earth when I restore your fortunes before your very eyes,” says the Lord. (Zechariah 3:20 NIV).

We all know that God’s timing is like our timing for with Him, “a thousand years is but a day and a day a thousand years” so at what time is the prophet referencing?

Some may posture that the time is when we are all in heaven. Some may say it has already occurred. Here’s another “theory” about that time. That time–is whatever time God says it is; not us. When He will gather us and bring us home–in His timing. When He will give us honor and praise among “all peoples of the earth” and restore our fortunes before our very eyes, is His timing; not ours. Rather than theorizing about the “when” I’d rather look forward to seeing it since I know that, “eyes have not seen, nor ears heard of all the wonderful things He has in store for us.”

While I wait to see–I will concentrate on being obedient to His Word–embracing my relationship with Him all the more and showering others with the love received from Him, until all I know come to know Him for themselves. How will I do it? One person at a time–with a hug, a smile, a bill tucked into the palms of their hands, an encouraging word that will help keep them focused on moving forward and not dwelling on a past that is beyond recovery, and teaching everything I know, by continuing to learn.

I know that fortunes have been lost with the people who have been lost in the process of time and death. Those people–who could have been instrumental in amassing financial fortunes–left before many had opportunity to do so, but they left behind those who loved them and who are determined to make their lives a legacy before others. Our love for lost loved ones should ignite in us the determination to do all we can before our time is up, and before we can reasonably amass a fortune in “love” that rains upon others, inspiring growth and maturity that will be passed on to generations to come. Our fortunes restored–before our very eyes lie in ability to love and see love grow by what we do that will lead people into greater understanding and knowledge of who God is! He will do it–before our very eyes–if we simply trust and obey!

Gathering us together–those who love and know Love–bringing us home–for home is where the heart is–will be the biggest blessing to mankind that all will be able to see–because and love and peace will abound in all the earth–before our very eyes.

I don’t know about you, but I’m prepared to live a life moving towards the prize–of having Him say “at that time” when all has been said and done, “Well Done!” What are you going to do?

His Timing is Not Ours!

“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance”(2 Peter 3:9 NIV).

Isn’t it good to know that God’s timing is not measured by our timing?  Hallelujah!  If His timing was calculated based upon how “we determine time,” most of us would be in trouble.

The Word tells us that Jesus is coming back–does not specify time–but for those who truly believe, we know He’s coming back.  Many people have doubted The Word because they do not understand God’s timing.  We are told in The Word that with God, “a thousand years is like one day and one day like a thousand years”.  This is how God measures time.  If we, as human beings, could ever get past the notion that we can–define, demonstrate, illustrate, or explain God based on our own finite knowledge of anything–God would have a better chance of accomplishing some things through us.  As it is, we miss God’s best for our lives because we attempt to bring Him down to our level of thinking instead of allowing Him to bring us up to His level of thinking and doing.

He also reminds us that, “His thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways are not our ways”.  Why? Because He’s God–the omniscient One, all-knowing God–the One who created us and not the other way around.  Once we accept this simple fact, we put ourselves in position to receive His best–in His timing, not ours.  Think about it!  If we truly thought and acted like God, the world would be in a much better place because all we would do is “love one another” as He has commanded us to do.

So, the next time you get a little frustrated waiting to see God’s promises fulfilled in your life–know this!  His timing is not ours, but He is not a man that He should lie. If He promised it, He will bring it to pass!  Hallelujah!
