Stimulating Wholesome Thinking!

“Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking” (2 Peter 3:1 NIV).

When I read this passage this morning, I was reminded of the reason I write. I don’t expect people to agree with everything I say; not even some of what I say, but I write to encourage and stimulate wholesome thinking especially in how we treat people.

We live in a society where are constantly bombarded with everyone’s thoughts through various types of media–online media, television, radio, blogs, all the social media, books, magazines, hand-bills, posters, bill-boards, and online news commentaries. Some of the thoughts we read can readily be dismissed when we recognize the influence behind the thoughts. Some of the thoughts, we may actually consider to be genuine from rational people, until we continue to read what they write. And some, thoughtful writers will actually challenge us to think.

How do we know when we see “wholesome writing” that will ignite “wholesome thinking?

If what someone says aligns with The Word, explains The Word, expounds on The Word, and is not judgmental, obscene, or profane, or full of hate; we can probably conclude that the writer is thinking wholesome thoughts.  If what someone says, denies or scoffs at The Word, is in opposition to The Word, then we know who is influencing the words they write. What they say will not lead to wholesome thinking, but to chaos and confusion designed to get people off track.

How far off track are we in our society today? Should not our thoughts be the same as the thoughts of Christ?  If we have the mind of Christ, should we not have the conduct of Christ? Should not our heart be as His–loving, full of compassion, and always forgiving?

Nothing in life is fair–God did not promise us fairness. He said, “the just shall live by faith.” So, don’t be bitter about things that didn’t “seem fair”, move forward and know that if we continue in The Word, we shall receive God’s many benefits and He is not slow to fulfill His promises to us! We are the “just” and “the righteousness of Christ” because He said so, not us.

Now, think on these things–whatsoever is pure, lovely, and of a good report–all leading to wholesome thinking. Remember to love and forget all the things that would cause you to hold onto bitterness and unforgiveness. Keep your focus on the prize ahead of you in Christ Jesus! Rational Thinking > Rational Decisions > Rational Behavior–towards all!

Sometimes, Thinking Hurts!

Writing, as a process, is thinking.

Thinking, random thoughts or focused ones,

Sometimes leads to deeper thoughts.

When I think, I write.

When I write, I think.

Some days, my thoughts are clear.

Some days, my thoughts are cloudy.

I can look at the sky and think about God.

I can look at a newborn and think about God.

I can look at flowers and small creatures and think about God.

I can look at an ocean and think about God.

I can look at a mountain and think about God.

Then, I look at what our society is and think,

How did we ever get so far, from thinking about God?

Does God want us to kill and rob?

Does God want us to hate for no reason?

Does God want us to abuse children and the elderly?

Does God want us to sit back and do nothing–

Never speak of the evils of this world and who’s behind them?

When we speak, do we speak Truth as God sees Truth?

Or do we speak, a politically correct truth that has nothing to do with Godliness?

When we lie, do we not understand that lying is the influence from Satan?

When we kill and destroy people or property, do we not see Satan’s influence?

When we hate people–for no other reason than they are different,

Can we not see Satan’s influence?

If our relationship with God is right, we’ll think as He instructed,

And seek to help those in need and take care of families.

If our relationship with Satan is maintained,

We shall soon cease to exist, since his goal is to destroy mankind.

With all that is going on in the world,

With all the thoughts that bombard my mind,

Sometimes, thinking hurts.

But then, I write, and write, and write.

God help us to align our thinking with Yours that we might do what You would do in any situation, guided by love.

The Struggle

For some, the struggle to do what is right is a daily fight. This struggle includes making wise decisions, being considerate of others, standing up for justice, doing what God says to do, and do it well. Why is this struggle so great?

The struggle to do right is greater because it is so much easier to give in to temptation. It is easier to think and act selfishly. It is easier to cuss someone out than to think about how to say what you want to say. It is easier to go along to get along than to stand on principles aligned with God’s Word.

If the struggle to do right was easy, many people would be saved and living abundant lives. But it is so much easier for people to live unsaved, without thinking about the consequences of their action, and how what they do impacts others. Since there are so many people struggling to live–without fear, without concern about finances or what the economy will bring or what the politicians will do, we know the struggle is real, we know there are people who have yet to find peace with Jesus, who are yet unsaved.

Lord Jesus, help us in our struggles to do what is right and help others to do the same. Help us to fight the good fight of faith in You, not self. Help us to resist the devil and watch him flee from us.

Tomorrow’s Good

Have you ever had a day in which you didn’t do everything you had planned to do?

Today, was a day like that for me. At first, I felt a little guilty about it, but then when I thought about how my week usually flies by, I realized I don’t often have a chance to “do nothing” any day.

I looked at the things I needed to do and realized nothing was urgent; I could do everything another time. The problem with me is I plan everything. I have deadlines–self-imposed deadlines–but deadlines just the same. When I cannot get things done by my deadlines, I tend to get a little frustrated. Not today. I decided, tomorrow’s good. I can still get everything done before the end of the week, I just have to adjust my time and activities.

So, if you didn’t get everything done today, unless it was urgent, don’t worry about it and don’t feel guilty. Everyone needs to rest their mind, body, and spirit and when tomorrow arrives–it’s all good!

Lord, if you delay your return–it’s all good; if not–that’s even better!

Looking Around and Loving Life

It has taken me a while to get where I’m going, but I’m on my way and I would love for others to take this journey with me.  We are excited about the “insight” with words we use to encourage, inspire, and educate.  Several of my books are already on the market and others on the way, and while we wait–we are inviting others to join us for discussions about life–from a natural and a spiritual perspective.
